Become a Chair

It is hugely absorbing and enjoyable.

I am a gregarious person and enjoys meeting people and understanding new businesses.

Our Chairs are at the heart of what we do. They have all worked at senior executive level- leading teams and achieving results through people. They are now at a point in life where they want to do work that matters, on their terms, as well as continue to improve, learn and be challenged.

In the first 6-9 months as you build your Chair practice you’ll need to work with energy and focus to get your group together- with our help. Once you’ve launched your group it’s then about delivering great value to your members by running world class group meetings and 1:1 coaching sessions. It’s a really challenging role but many of our Chairs rate it as the most rewarding work they’ve ever done.

The early phase of building a group is intense and you’re in start-up mode. Realistically new Chairs need to be able to give 25 hours per week to get the group together. Once the group is launched it’s important to build up to 12+ members as this is where the experience is strongest for members- they stay longer and get maximum value from being part of Vistage.

If you’re running a full group of 16 members it would take around 8 days per month to chair the group- 1 day for the group meeting, 5 days to deliver 1:1 sessions and the rest for planning and ongoing member selection.

How much times does it take?

I felt that running a peer group would bring my coaching experience to a new Lebel and still to this day call it “coaching on steroids” or “coaching to the power of 12” when I’m asked to compare it with traditional coaching relationships.

We have an open, challenging selection process where under 10% of candidates are offered places on our training. If successful the new Chairs pay a fee of £3K plus VAT and will undergo initial training at our Head Office in San Diego along with a select group of other UK Chairs. In return Vistage give access to 150 hours of training (1:1, group and online) to new Chairs in year 1 alone along with a range of mentoring and marketing support to help you build your group. All told we’ll invest many times more than the £3K the Chair puts in to help you get your group launched. This is a partnership and, as clichéd as it sounds, your success is our success.

Once you’ve launched your group the Chair earnings depend on the number of groups and paying members you have. There are a number of Chairs who build 2 full Vistage groups and earn a very healthy 6 figure income for doing work that they love.

I was attracted to all the components of the Vistage model; I was already a huge fan of action learning sets, I loved coaching and I loved the idea of expert speaker inputs.

I also felt lonely working as a one-man band after years in teams and was drawn to belonging to a community of like-minded people.
