Nici knows a thing or two about the importance of having the right people in your business. Following her Business & Finance degree she held several leadership roles in numerous functions within corporates. It was whilst working on the acquisition and integration of a number of European SME businesses that Nici had her light-bulb moment. “I realised that without the right people in place, success doesn’t happen. You can have the best strategy or technology, but success all comes down to people”.
Returning from a career break and managing 3 children under 4, Nici experienced the other side of recruitment first hand, and didn’t like what she saw. She realised the recruiter was just focused on the activity of ‘making the hire’ in isolation to everything else. The agencies sole focus was on ‘the placement’ and getting the fee for this ‘success’.
Speaking to SME leaders, she discovered this created a problem for them too, often feeling that they had no option but to use agencies, because they lacked the internal expertise, resource or time to go it alone.
Nici believes scaling a business starts with the right time and is now on a mission to help SME leaders to “hire with confidence” and takes every opportunity to speak about this topic. Recruiting in isolation can feel like a gamble but it’s one which businesses don’t have to take. Nici and the Talent Gateway team developed the 5P’s foundational model which enables growing businesses to consistently “build the right team through embedding the 5P’s”.
Nici is also qualified as an Organisational Design and Development practitioner. Outside of work she is an avid trail runner, often with her rescue dog, Luna, and she’s completed several marathons and ultramarathons. Nici is an advocate for entrepreneurship and has spoken on the topic at a number of schools & universities.
